This commentary examines how the Brazil's deployment of its armed forces in peacekeeping operations (PKOs) abroad has opened the way for the country’s expanded presence in global security affairs. The authors also look at how Brazil's involvement in the PKO in Haiti following the 2004 earthquake had a positive impact on Brazil's domestic security. They then look ahead to Brazil's potential involvement in future PKOs in the Middle East and in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
