This paper discusses Russia's East 2014 military air and sea exercises, which are designed to test the readiness of the country's armed forces and civilian administration for action during a potential conflict with China or Japan. The author argues that while the exercises demonstrated the increasing combat capabilities of Russia's armed forces, they also exposed a number of deficiencies that still exist in the country's defense systems, such as the weaknesses of its logistics system.
