This article examines the sustainability and security of gas supplies to Europe, with a particular focus on the importance of Norway to Europe's energy security. The author argues that over the short term, an increase in exports of Norwegian gas can raise the level of European energy security. However, over the long term, she suggests that Norway’s ability to remain a stable supplier will depend on the discoveries of new gas fields, limiting the country's potential to replace gas supplies from Russia.
