This brief assesses the UN’s ability to deploy its forces quickly, particularly by taking stock of the eight initiatives currently underway to help make rapid deployments possible. It concludes that two problems have undermined UN efforts thus far – not enough funds and an incremental/fragmented approach to institutional reforms. To reverse these problems, the brief closes by providing specific recommendations on what to do next.
