This commentary examines the challenges posed to Patriarch Kirill, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC), by Moscow's aggressive policies towards Ukraine. Although the interests of the Church and the Kremlin have seamlessly coincided for many years, and will remain strong in the future, Vladimir Putin's policies are now throwing an uncomfortable wrinkle into the ROC's relationship with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
