This commentary examines Ukraine’s economy, as of October 2014, as well as how it has been affected by the conflict in the East of the country and Russian policies. The author contends that data on Ukraine’s financial situation demonstrates that the economic crisis that in the country has been exacerbated since the conflict began. He also contends that Moscow’s policies toward Ukraine are the main factor behind the country’s deteriorating economic situation and that if Russia maintains these policies, the economic crisis may prove to be long-lasting.
