This commentary discusses the free trade agreement (FTA) between the EU and South Korea and its impact on South Korea’s export economy. The author argues that since the implementation of the FTA in 2011, EU exports to South Korea have increased, while South Korean exports to the EU have fallen. She contends, however, that even though the benefits of the FTA may not have been visible over its first few years, South Korea should persist with the agreement as many of the positive results of such trade deals only come out in the long term.
