This paper examines the main challenges facing the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum. The author also reviews the achievements of APEC and some of the main issues that could define the Asia-Pacific region in the future, including North America's role in the region and whether the nations on either side of the Pacific will able to use their power effectively to take on the role of global leadership.
