This book provides an overview of the findings of a 2014 monitoring exercise on banking business models in the EU. The authors examine the ownership structures, assess the financial and economic performance, as well as the resilience and robustness of 147 European banks, before, during and after the 2008 financial and economic crises. They conclude that banks engaging in more traditional retail banking activities with a mix of funding sources performed better, compared to other bank models during the different phases of the crisis.
