This paper examines organized crime, including drug trafficking, illicit pharmaceutical products and cybercrime in Senegal’s capital Dakar, and its implications for governance in the city. The authors argue that there has been a significant rise in organized crime in Dakar and that its implications for urban governance include the undermining of the rule of law and the replacement of state governance by criminal governance in the city. They also provide a set of recommendations for the government of Senegal on how to tackle organized crime in the Dakar.
