This paper examines Myanmar's plans to harness hydroelectric power to provide electricity for its development, with a particular focus on the projects along the Salween River as well as their ability to create conflict. The authors also examine the potential environmental and socioeconomic impact of the hydropower plans in the country before providing recommendations for Myanmar as well as for regional and international actors on how to deal with the challenges created by the projects.
