Given the increasing overlap between criminal, political and social forms of violence, this report provides a conceptual framework to help us better understand their mutual influences. More specifically, the report 1) reviews the ways we categorize and then perceive violence, 2) explores the problems posed by non-conventional armed actors, and 3) contributes a policy-centered framework that helps us understand how chronic violence negatively affects human development.
