This article discusses the relationships between different political and economic forces in the country following the ousting of President Morsi and the changes in the political order in Egypt since July 2013. In particular the author examines 1) the military consolidation of power and increased control over the economy; 2) the chances for a partnership between the business elites and the military; and 3) the secular and Islamist forces' efforts to win seats in the 2014 parliamentary elections. The author argues that a military-business partnership is important to ensure economic recovery and political stability in the medium and long run.
