This paper examines the legality of autonomous weapons systems (AWS) and the decision of whether or not to ban them and their development. In particular, the author 1) discusses the level of human control over AWS; 2) the legality of AWS technologies in the existing international legal framework and under international humanitarian law; and 3) the questions raised by autonomous or semi-autonomous systems over the attribution of responsibility. The author also examines Poland's priorities in debating the legality and use of AWS.
