This report analyzes the role of the rising powers – China, India, Brazil and South Africa – in the evolving African peace and security architecture. The authors explain that China, India and Brazil are increasingly concerned about their image and reputation as well as the security of their citizens and business interests on the continent and are therefore becoming more prepared to act multilaterally and to work with others in facilitating security and stability there. As an African power, South Africa plays a more direct role and has emerged as a major player in the continent’s evolving peace and security architecture.
