This paper discusses the abuse of the Iraqi Marsh Arabs by Saddam Hussein and details the impact of the Iraq war and the associated regime change on the Marsh population. The author describes the destruction of the Iraqi marshlands through the hydro-political decisions of the Hussein regime in the context of the environmental and social damage it caused. The paper analyzes how repatriation and rehabilitation of the Iraqi marshlands may be achieved in the future.
