This brief reviews the security situation in the Sahel-Sahara region, to include the counterterrorism efforts Western countries are pursuing against jihadist groups there. More specifically, the brief examines 1) Libya’s ongoing security problems, 2) French and US security commitments in northern Mali and Niger, and 3) Nigeria’s humanitarian problems.
