This commentary discusses the effectiveness of the Philippines' disaster risk reduction (DDR) efforts since the introduction of the country's DRR and Management Act in 2010. The author argues that while the act has been acclaimed worldwide for being one of the most progressive of its kind, the impact of disasters in the country remains high demonstrating that the root causes of people’s vulnerability to natural hazards requires much more than just the DRR and Management Act.
