This commentary examines the state of US-Hungarian relations in light of Washington's decision to suspend the right of entry to the country of six representatives of the Hungarian government in October 2014. The author contends that the reasons for these sanctions can be explained by the fact that there are concerns in the US over democratic standards in Hungary and due to geopolitical factors relating to Budapest's improvement in its relations with Moscow following the outbreak of the crisis in Ukraine. He also looks at what this strategy means for the EU and states in Central Europe.
