The author also 1) examines some of the problems in the EU’s approach to migration; 2) looks at the challenges which the EU faces in extending its freedom of movement policy to the South and East; and 3) provides recommendations on how the EU could better deploy its Common Security and Defence Policy (CDSP) to help deal with the refugee and irregular immigration crisis in the Mediterranean region.
