This paper examines 1) the links between conflict in the Kivus regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and instability in the country as a whole, and 2) the post-conflict recovery efforts that have occurred in the DRC since the end of the Second Congo War in 2003. The paper concludes that peace and stability in the country will continue to depend on knowing the true causes of specific clashes, such as those in the Kivus regions.
