This paper presents a summary of conflict trends in Africa and provides a picture of the potential future impact of changes in Africa's development and security prospects up to 2063. More specifically, the authors summarize the increases in social instability and protests that have occurred since 2010 and discuss the implications of increases or decreased levels of armed violence on economic growth, poverty and other dimensions of development. They conclude that the single most important driver of stability in Africa is the strength and nature of governance.
