This report explores the long-term peacetime strategies that the US might pursue in order to maintain its international standing. After laying out the criteria that strategists and policymakers should adopt in formulating a preferred (and competitive) strategy, the report next describes the costs it would impose on competitors. Finally, the report concludes with some thoughts on how to evaluate the successes of any preferred strategy.
