This paper discusses the foreign policy the Obama administration is likely to pursue in the Middle East in its remaining two years in office. The author contends that the administration is likely to focus on two primary challenges: 1) preventing Iran from producing a nuclear weapon while avoiding the need for military aggression to achieve this aim, and 2) degrading terrorist capabilities in a minimalist way, so as not to provoke a retaliatory attack on US soil. He also briefly examines what direction US foreign policy may take in Egypt, Turkey, Libya, and Yemen.
