This brief discusses the role women have played in politics in Tunisia and how the debate on women's rights has developed in the country, particularly since the Arab Spring. The author contends that Tunisia's transition process since 2011 has confirmed the country’s position at the forefront of women’s rights in the region, something demonstrated by the level of participation of women in the political protests of 2011 and their role in the constitution-making process. However, she also suggests that the process of establishing women's rights in Tunisia still faces a number of challenges and sustained vigilance and mobilization are necessary for these problems to be overcome.
