This policy brief discusses the political and economic challenges facing Poland prior to the December 2014 departure of the country's Prime Minister Donald Tusk from office to take up his role as the President of the European Council. The author contends that the departure of Tusk and Radoslaw Sikorski, the Minster of Foreign Affairs, marks the end of a successful decade for Poland and that the next decade may be more difficult. Indeed, he suggests that Poland needs a new economic model to sustain growth and that it faces a number of political dilemmas due to the state of its defense policies; its policy toward Russia and the crisis in Ukraine; and the issue of entering the eurozone.
