This commentary examines Russia's economic sanctions against Moldova, which were put in place as a means of responding to the Moldovan authorities’ pro-Western policy ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for November 30th 2014. The author provides an overview of Russian influence on the Moldovan economy, specifically in trade, the job market, the energy sector and the banking sector. He then argues that economic pressure from the Kremlin has failed to produce results and that support for the pro-European parties is high.
