This paper discusses the data available to the EU and its member states on the asylum systems in member states, including their capacities and the pressures they are under, and how they are used in policy decision making in the Union. The author contends that although there are a wide variety of sources on asylum systems in the EU, solid data-based evidence is often absent from political negotiations on Common European Asylum System (CEAS) measures that affect refugees and asylum seekers.
