This commentary examines similarities and differences between the demilitarized zone (DMZ) dividing North and South Korea and the wall that divided Germany during the Cold War period. The author provides an overview of the reasons why the wall fell in Germany and argues that it would only be possible for a similar event to occur in Korea if North Korea had more access to and was better informed about conditions in the outside world.
