In light of China being awarded the presidency of the 2016 G20 summit in 2014, this paper examines China’s approach to global economic governance. In particular, the authors examine 1) the main factors that motivate China's growing participation in global economic governance; 2) Beijing's relationship with the key traditional and emerging economic governance actors, particularly the Bretton Woods institutions and the BRICS; and 3) the role that the G20 and China's presidency of the group in 2016 could play in China's efforts to increase its role in economic governance.
