Following Russia's intervention in Ukraine in 2014, this brief argues that the West can no longer take European security for granted. First, the author provides an overview of how Russia has increasingly exercised its military, economic and political power over the previous decade in Eastern Europe. He then recommends a set of measures which the West could undertake in order to counter the Kremlin’s influence and reassure allied countries in the region.
