This brief discusses the creation of the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB) and its impact on existing global financial institutions as well as emerging economies. The author argues that the NDB constitutes a positive step for developing nations as it 1) strengthens their voice in shaping global development finance; 2) increases the availability of additional infrastructure financing; and 3) creates competition among the global financial institutions.
