This paper examines how Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper's administration adapted the country's immigration policy after it came to power in 2006 as well as the implications of the administration's implementation a new immigration system in January 2015. The author contends that the new system, which aims to rank applicants by their suitability for the Canadian labor market, may lead to future immigrants being economically and socially more conservative than those who entered under the previous system.
