This publication is a manual for humanitarian practitioners on how to develop and implement approaches to improve humanitarian access in situations of armed conflict. More specifically, the manual 1) examines some of the main challenges and opportunities facing humanitarian access today; 2) provides an overview of the humanitarian principles behind humanitarian access and the international normative framework related to such access; 3) provides a method of how to develop and implement an approach on how to gain and maintain humanitarian access in situations of armed conflict; and 4) provides guidance for practitioners on how to face some of the main dilemmas of humanitarian access.
