Looking at the events, incidents and trends which took place in the Indian Ocean region in 2014, this paper makes some predictions on what events may occur in the region in 2015. More specifically, the author discusses 1) the BRICS states and the Indian Ocean; 2) the increasing maritime competition between the Indian Ocean rim countries; 3) the search and rescue capacity and capability by the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA); 4) the threat of Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS); 5) China’s maritime ambitions; 7) the Indian strategy in the Indian Ocean; and 8) the Chinese Maritime Silk Road (MSR) initiative and India.
