This brief discusses the humanitarian crisis that has resulted from people feeling the sectarian conflicts in Iraq and Syria since the start of Syria's civil war in 2011. The author also examines how the refugee crisis is affecting the countries who have received most of those who have been displaced, including Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon, before laying out a plan for how the EU should respond to the crisis.
