This paper examines the potential contribution of the private sector to international conflict prevention and resolution. The author begins by explaining why international organizations do not have the political possibilities or financial capacities to solely ensure sufficient socio-economic recovery in conflict-prone countries. He then details how responsible and committed engagement from private sector actors can contribute to effective poverty reduction and economic development and hence lead to greater peace and stability in post-conflict societies. Finally, he assesses the conflicting motivations of the private sector for engaging in international post-conflict reconstruction activities.
