This paper examines the threat and security implications of the increasing resistance of infectious pathogens to antimicrobial drugs for the US. The author contends that although the growth of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) does not yet pose a direct threat to US national security, if the issue is not tackled it could lead to a crisis that could affect security interests as widespread as international trade, global development, and counterterrorism. She also provides a number of recommendations for the US on how to deal with the problem, highlighting the need for international cooperation on the issue.
