This note provides an overview of trends that have emerged in conflicts being fought in the 21st century as well as the role of the UN, the EU, the Commonwealth of Nations and the UK in conflict prevention. It also discusses a report by the British House of Lords Select Committee on soft power and how the British government and non-state actors could improve its use of it.
