This paper examines the effect the governance indicators used by the World Bank had on the progress countries around the world made in pursuing the UN's Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Based on their analysis, the authors contend that the post-2015 development agenda should focus on government effectiveness and rule of law indicators as these had the greatest effect of the World Bank's indicators in relation to the pursuit of the MDG's.
