This paper examines the OSCE’s engagement with countries in the Mediterranean region and the prospects for the future of the organization's relations with the region. The author argues that although the volatile situation in the Mediterranean is a major obstacle to closer cooperation with the OSCE's South-Mediterranean partners, the organization's comprehensive and cooperative approach to security could help address conflict and problems created by failing states in the region. She also suggests that the OSCE could provide assistance to states in the Mediterranean to help them bring about domestic reform and enhance regional cooperation.
