On July 24th 2013 the UK notified the European Council that it wished to make use of a block opt-out option from acts in the field of police an judicial cooperation in criminal matters adopted before the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty in 2009. This note examines how the UK government has attempted to negotiate opting back into 35 measures in the field of police an judicial cooperation as well as the UK's parliamentary debate on the country's opt-out position in 2013 and 2014.
