This note provides a brief summary of the progress made by the military campaign against ISIS in Iraq and Syria until mid-December 2014. More specifically, it looks at 1) the amount of territory controlled by the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq and Syria; 2) the capabilities and strengths of IS; and 3) the effectiveness of the airstrikes conducted against them by the US and its allies.
