This paper reviews the impact of stabilization, state building and counterterrorism approaches on peace in conflict-affected contexts. More specifically, it looks at 1) the benefits and drawbacks of using statebuilding, stabilization and counterterrorism measures as a 'mainstream' approach to conflict; 2) the motives underpinning the use of this approach; and 3) alternatives to using the 'mainstream' approach.
