This paper looks at some of the main political and foreign relations issues that could affect countries and regional institutions in Southeast Asia in 2015, with a particular focus on those relating to democracy. The author focuses on 1) the democratic transition in Myanmar; 2) the political situation in Thailand and the democratic deficit in the country; 3) the political outlook for Indonesia following the election of President Joko Widodo in 2014; 4) some of the main challenges that ASEAN will face during 2015; and 5) India's policy toward Southeast Asia. The author also provides an overview of some of the main political issues that affected Southeast Asia in 2014.
