This commentary discusses the issue of illegal fishing in the Gulf of Guinea and the EU's Maritime Security Strategy (EMSS) which was set up to ensure a coherent European response to sea-based threats and risks. The author argues that the EU should place greater focus on illegal fishing and improve surveillance and monitoring of West African waters.
