This commentary discusses the public response in France to the January 2015 terrorist attacks on the satirical magazine "Charlie Hebdo". The author contends that although France must defend its ideals regarding freedom of speech, the country must also allow minorities to preserve their identity while at the same time ensuring their complete integration into society.
