This report reviews the African Model for peace operations that has emerged over the past decade, primarily because of the experiences of the African Union and sub-regional organizations on the continent. More specifically, the report examines how the model strays from the original design of the African Standby Force (ASF) and concludes that the ASF should remain the dominant framework for African peace operations, although with necessary adjustments being made to its subsidiarity principle, mission planning processes and more.
