This paper discusses China’s economic diplomacy, focusing on Beijing’s key free trade agreements with other countries. The author argues that the free trade agreements are building up China’s regional leadership and establishing its status as a rule-maker. She then contends that the European Union should concentrate on an investment treaty with Beijing and engage China in multilateral WTO negotiations.
