This paper discusses the implications of electing Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, from the right-wing Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), as president of Croatia. The author argues that although the change of president will not cause any fundamental shifts in domestic policy, Croatia’s new focus on foreign policy could lead to tensions between Zagreb and Belgrade.
